DOGS TO THE USA Featured

After experiencing a devastating fire in March, we reached out to shelters in the United States to help us evacuate our surviving dogs that couldn't be re-homed in Kuwait.  We're proud to report that every dog is now in a home or awaiting adoption at the Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL) in Washington DC.

WARL has now taken over thirty dogs! Animal Friends has no more dogs for the time being.  We are nearing completion of our new and vastly upgraded companion animal shelter.  The new facility features a complete fire supression system, a massive electrical upgrade, multiple cat rooms, a complete surgical suite, meet and greet rooms for adoptions, a large space for small animals like birds and fish, an administrative area, six isolation quarantine kennels, more than thirty dog kennels, four upgraded rooms for mother dogs with puppies, and much more!  We will be spending the quiet month of August cleaning the site and putting the finishing touches on the building.  Our biggest holdup at the moment is connecting the electrical system to the grid, which is waiting for some distribution components.

We will be contacting our volunteer corps for help as soon as the air condition is on!  As the management staff returns from the summer holidays, we will begin getting all of our programs back on line.  We hope everyone is as excited as we are.  Animal Friends is nearly back, and we're going to be bigger and better than ever.

We are adopting one of the dogs from the Washington Animal Rescue League http://www.pbase.com/helenpb/image/124356815 and cannot wait to bring her home on Tuesday! I would love to know if she had a name in your shelter and anything at all about her history. (I'm trying to find a suitable Arabic name in view of where she came from; we rescued a dog in Turkey who just passed away, and had given her a Turkish name as well.) In any case, she's a lovely dog and shows that she was well cared for by you before she arrived in the States. We have visited Kuwait, BTW, and enjoyed our stay there. So sorry to hear of your tragic fire, and good luck in getting back on your feet.
