This little kitten was found terrified on the inside lane of Highway 30. This little kitten was found terrified on the inside lane of Highway 30.
This December, as usual, has been a busy month for sick and injured kittens.  If you come across a kitten in distress, here's what you should do...
  1. Don't place yourself in danger.
  2. If the kitten's eyes are not open, you should try to find the mother.  If you can't find her, try leaving the kitten nearby but out of danger.  Kittens usually do not travel far and the mother is likely just looking for food.
  3. If the kitten is obviously sick or injured, your first choice should be to take it to a vet.  If the vet is closed or you are unable or unwilling to pay for veterinary services, you can call Animal Friends at 6700-1622.  We cannot pick the kitten up as we are but a few volunteers with limited time and resources.  If you can get the kitten to us, we will take over from there.  It's really not asking much if you think about it.

Here are two more stories just from the past two weeks:

This poor kitten came to us in a pitiful state.  It's eyes were almost completely closed due to panleukepenia.  While we can't save every kitten, we always try.  Sadly, this kitten did not survive.

Despite this little kitten's severe injury, he is doing very well.  He arrived with a bandage tightly wrapped around his foot.  Someone had intended to help him, but because they didn't keep him confined, the bandage ended up costing him all of the skin on his foot.  In our care, he has greatly improved in only a few short days.  We expect he will make a full recovery in a fairly short time.  Until then, he continues to receive daily bandage changes, cleaning, pain killers, and anti-biotics to prevent infection.  If you're interested in fostering this little guy when he gets a little better, please contact us at 6700-1622 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. This holiday season, why not give the gift of love to a cat in need?  Your donation of cash, food, cleaning supplies, and other related materials can make a world of difference.  We will even collect your donation.  Call 6700-1622 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Just a quick follow up: the kitten was named Earl and his leg was amputated by Dr Jill at RAH a few days ago. One would hardly believe it...he runs around, jumps, leaps and plays. He will be looking for a loving family, so please contact the shelter if you can provide a good home for a very active "tri-pod" kitten.

I'm helping with the medical care of the little black and white kitten above. It is now a certainty that his leg will have to be amputated due to nerve damage. This will not slow him down in any way! He runs around the room, bounces up and down and plays like mad while lugging a bandage around. He is such a little trooper.
